Driving Lessons
Pass Plus with Mark Ellett Driving

PASS PLUS is a training scheme for new drivers. It's much more than just a few extra lessons. This specially designed course by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA), with the help of insurers and the driving instruction industry, helps you:

  • Gain valuable driving experience safely
  • Build on your existing skills and knowledge
  • Reduce your risk of being in a road crash
  • Save money on car insurance premiums
  • Boost your confidence
  • Give peace of mind to your loved ones.
  • There is no test at the end of it

You will be taught how to deal with a wide range of road and traffic situations, many of which you probably won't have faced before.

It can take years to become a skilled driver. PASS PLUS helps get you there by speeding up the learning process under expert tuition.

The course will help boost your awareness of all kinds of hazards and help you learn how to anticipate, plan for and deal with them safely.

Pass Plus takes a minimum of six hours, all of which need to be taken after passing your test. When you have successfully completed the course, you are advised to check available discounts offered by the insurance companies taking part in the scheme. The amount you save will depend on the company you choose, you may even save more than you paid for the course!

If you feel nervous driving on your own, the PASS PLUS training can help you become more confident on the roads.

PASS PLUS consists of six practical modules which cover driving in town, in all weathers, on rural roads, at night, on dual carriageways and on motorways. You can take it at any time within the first 12 month of passing your test.

Your driving will be continually assessed and you must successfully complete all the modules in the course to an achieved or exceeded standard:

  • Achieved - successfully reached the standard required for each of the competencies
  • Exceeded - exceeded the required standard for each of the competencies

In exceptional circumstances, if a module can't be done on the road it will be covered in a theory session. The highest level you can reach is 'achieved' as you've not been able to demonstrate the relevant practical skills.

Don't worry if you haven't got a car at the moment, you may be able to defer the discount for up to two years. Again, check with your insurance company.

If you passed your test more than a year ago you should check that you'll be eligible for the discounts on offer from your insurance company before you take the course.

Intensive Courses
One of the advantages of being an independent driving instructor is that Mark is able to offer intensive lessons tailored to your specific needs at times that suit you. This could be multiple lessons per week or even daily lessons, all aimed at getting you through your test and behind the wheel a lot quicker. And don't forget, the more lessons you book in one go, the bigger the discount you receive! (Refer to home page for current costs).
Refresher Courses

Refresher courses are generally aimed towards drivers who have passed their test but have not driven for a long period of time. Some drivers may have moved to different areas which could involve new driving scenarios and situations.

As with all his courses, Mark will specialise a course that suits your needs. He can assess your driving ability and advise you of any potential errors and weaknesses that may be present in your current driving. You can also state any key areas that you may want advice and focused tuition on.

Motorway Instruction

Motorways. To the newly qualified driver they can seem like a very daunting place. Everything is faster. Other drivers behave differently. There are more conventions, hazards and rules to get to grips with.

Facing these new conditions is scary, and many people never even make the leap. But remember how you felt the first time you sat behind the wheel of a car? How you didn't know what any of the controls did? Learning to drive on a motorway is much less of a challenge than learning to drive in the first place.

Marks specialist motorway instruction lessons are a way for you to get past that hurdle and onto the motorways.

Mark is more than happy to provide further information on any of the courses above so please don't hesitate to contact him!
